Having AI do the cooking math for me

Having AI do the cooking math for me

Sometimes when planning a meal, it can get confusing when to start things so that the meal can come together at the same time. It doesn't always work out that way though because humidity in the air, or an oven that isn't regulated properly can really mess up the timing.

ChatGPT was given the foods to prep and put in the oven and the time to eat at 2PM (for an Easter dinner). Here is the timeline:

🕒 Updated Timeline (Serve at 2:00 PM)

11:45 AM — Start Potatoes Prep

  • Slice potatoes, make sauce, assemble dish
  • Takes about 30 minutes

12:15 PM — Potatoes in Oven (350°F)

  • Bake for ~1 hour 30 minutes
  • Target done around 1:45 PM

12:45 PM — Lower Oven Temp

  • Reduce oven to 325°F for the ham
  • (Potatoes will continue cooking fine)

12:50 PM — Ham Goes In

  • Heat for 75 minutes
  • Target finish: ~2:05 PM

1:30 PM — Salad Prep

  • Open bag, add toppings, set out dressing
  • Keep chilled or ready to toss

1:40 PM — Check Potatoes

  • Should be nearly done
  • Add extra 5–10 minutes if needed
  • Optional: quick broil for a golden top

1:45 PM — Pull Potatoes

  • Let rest (this helps them firm up and taste better)

2:00 PM — Pull Ham

  • Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing

2:05–2:10 PM — Serve

  • Slice ham
  • Toss salad
  • Everything is hot and ready

🔑 Quick Notes

  • Potatoes resting while the ham finishes = perfect timing
  • If oven space is tight, potatoes are more forgiving than the ham
  • You’ve got a built-in buffer, so no rush right at 2:00
